Abstract
This dataset presents counts of septic systems at the census tract level. Data were derived from 2011 county parcel data and aggregated by census tract.
Purpose
Septic systems are used by 22% of homes in New York State, and they are important components of the wastewater infrastructure. This dataset quantifies how many septic systems are used across New York State.

The dataset includes census tracts for all New York counties except for Westchester, New York City (Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens, Richmond), and Long Island (Nassau, Suffolk). There are also a handful of tracts missing from other counties, in cases where the parcel data did not match the tract boundaries for unknown reasons.
