- Abstract
- Tax parcel boundaries in Tompkins County for 2009 plus selected information added from the Tompkins County real property services (RPS) database for web applications. The boundaries represent the one-to-one match (GIS and RPS) with the parcel boundaries shown on the final paper maps for the given year. This version is mainly used for web-based applications where there is a live link to the extensive RPS data via imagemate online.
- Purpose
- The parcel boundaries represent legal descriptions of property ownership, as recorded in various public documents in the Tompkins County Clerk's Office. This is the New-York-State-mandated database of property ownership and information in Tompkins County. This database is related to a subset of the RPS database extract using the SWISPRINTK field. Please note that this version does not contain property ownership or property value information.
- Supplemental Information
- Properties that are tracked by an account number (utilities, railroads, etc.) may be shown as several separate tax parcel boundaries, with different tax map print keys, even though they are tracked in the Real Property Services (RPS) database under the same account number and treated as one single parcel. The parcel region will show these account-number properties as one tax parcel boundary. This data set is derived from the "region_parcel" featureclass currently being maintained in ArcSDE. Please note that as of July 2009, the tax parcel boundaries have not been edge-matched across municipal boundaries since in most cases these require new surveys and legal descriptions.

- The region parcel dataset is extracted from ArcSDE annually. A special script is used to compare properties in the region parcels feature class to the RPS table. Discrepancies are reviewed and corrected manually. This data set's topology is created real-time using the ESRI set of ArcGIS map and geodatabase topology rules, then converted to an ArcView shapefile. All error checking is done in the source data sets.
