Abstract
The Tompkins County Planning Department utilized inter-departmental mapping expertise of the Tompkins County Information Technology Services GIS Division to produce defined watershed boundaries for surface water features for Tompkins County, NY. The need for this data set has been identified by various county departments, local municipal agencies, and other not-for-profit organizations.
Purpose
To produce boundaries for watersheds as they were defined for the Tompkins County Planimetric Hydrography data set.
Supplemental Information
Hydrography data originating from the Tompkins County 1991-92 Planimetric project at a scale of 1:4800 was organized into watersheds. Boundaries were created using an automated technique which interpolated the direction of flow of individual grid cells of a DEM. This was used as a rough guideline to refine the boundaries using the water features in the planimetric hydrography data set, the DEC - Water Index Maps, NHD data, and field checks (particularly in perched wetlands that divide watersheds). CUGIR also has Watershed data from the New York State DEC http://cugir2.mannlib.cornell.edu/buckets/Display.jsp?id=491
