Abstract
This data set portrays the current routes used for conducting Breeding Bird Surveys in New York State. This data set was collected using a different roads file from that available through the National Atlas of the United States.
Purpose
The digital data sets are used to create electronic and hard copy maps of the Breeding Bird Survey routes. The data can be used to conduct geographic analysis on national and large regional scales. The data should be displayed and analyzed at scales appropriate for 1:100,000-scale data. No responsibility is assumed by the U.S. Geological Survey or by USGS Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in the use of these data.
Supplemental Information
For a description of the Breeding Bird Survey methods see Robbins, C.S. and W.T. Van Velzen; 1967; The Breeding Bird Survey, 1966; USDOI Migratory Bird Populations Station, Special Scientific Report--Wildlife No. 102; Washington, D.C. Arc/INFO and ArcView are products of Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (ESRI), 380 New York Street, Redlands, CA 92373. Reference to ESRI products is for information purposes only and does not constitute endorsement by the U.S. Geological Survey. This data set was collected using a different roads file from that available through the National Atlas of the United States, so there may be positional differences between the two map layers.

Data Quality Information
Logical Consistency Report
Arc/INFO software was used to create and maintain topological relationships between features. The Arc/INFO command BUILD was run to ensure the topological consistency of the data set. Each route was checked for missing and dangling arcs, correct length, proper direction, and correct route measures.
Completeness Report
This data set contains the Breeding Bird Survey Routes in the lower 48 States which were considered active in 1998. This includes many of the routes added in 1998, though not all of them. The discontinued Breeding Bird Survey routes were generally not digitized.
