Abstract
This shapefile contains the boundaries of the 8-digit watersheds that intersect New York State.
Purpose
These hydrologic unit boundaries provide a uniquely identified and uniform method of subdividing the state into large drainage areas at 1:250,000 scale.
Supplemental Information
The 8-digit hydrologic unit codes for each watershed indicate the hydrologic region (first two digits), hydrologic subregion (second two digits), accounting unit (third two digits), and cataloging unit (fourth two digits), as defined by the USGS. This dataset was extracted from the national 1:250,000-scale dataset that is available on the USGS Water Resources website: http://water.usgs.gov/GIS/huc.html

Completeness Report
Only watersheds that intersect New York State are included in this dataset, and these watersheds have been left intact (rather than being clipped to the state border). Some portions of the northern border of New York State were not included in the national dataset, and thus are not included here.
Horizontal Positional Accuracy Report
These data were digitized at a scale of 1:250,000 with some portions of coverage at 1:100,000 and 1:2,000,000 scale. Limitations of the data strictly revolve around this scale input. Use of these boundaries with larger scale data (i.e. 1:24k hydrography) is not recommended as it would be beyond the resolution capabilities of the data set.
