Abstract
This polygon data lyaer represents tax parcels for the city of DePere, Wisconsin in 1999. The data was originally created by the Brown County Survey Department and was at the time unpublished. [This product is a compilation of cadastrial data from many sources. These sources include, but are not limited to, U.S. General Land Office survey notes, deeds, plats, survey maps, easements, survey notes from land surveyors, town road records and right-of-way plats. The maps are different scales and were made on dates ranging from the early 1800's to the present. Deeds and other written documentation date from the early 1800's to the present. Deeds and other records date from the early 1800's to the present. Survey practices were used to construct the frame work and are followed where interpretation of information was required. This product is intended to provide a representation of the shape and location of tax parcels and is suitable for the intended use.]
Purpose
This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [The tax parcel maps were created to support the taxation and assessment efforts of the Property Listing Division of the Survey Department and to provide a county wide base for land information activities.]

Description
[Deeds, land survey maps and other related documents are read. Locations of line work is determined and the parcels are mapped. Parcel identification numbers and originating document numbers are obtained from the Brown County Land Records System. Where records are too ambiguous key points are located in the field using GPS and conventional surveying techniques. Title ambiguities are discussed with the County Surveyor/Property Lister, Property Listing Manager and Property Analysts to correct problems. The mapping is done by municipal taxing districts. Information from adjacent areas that were previously completed is used as part of the project. When a municipality is completed a plat book is published. The parcel maps are updated as the Property Listing division processes information. ]
