- Abstract
- These line and point data layers represent urban rail links and stops for the United States in 2004. They are feature classes within the geodatabase UnitedStates_UrbanRails_2004.gdb.The dataset was originally published by the United States Department of Transportation-Bureau of Transportation Statistics in 2007.[Version 2004 of the Fixed-Guideway Transit Network is a network database of the nation's fixed-guideway transit systems. The data set covers systems in cities defined as FTA's universe of cities and includes heavy rail, light rail, monorail, cable car, inclined plane, and automated guideway.]
- Purpose
- This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data. [The data provide users with information about the location and type of fixed-guideway transit and terminal facilities primarily for regional cartographic, spatial and network analysis purposes.]
- Supplemental Information
- AGSL staff supplemented original metadata. For official metadata please see Urban Rail Links.htm and Urban Rail Stops.htm.

- Description
- [Source data were compiled from a number of transit sources. The SOURCE field identifies the original source of the data. The source data were checked for duplicate arcs, connectivity problems such as dangles were corrected. All stations were checked for existence and added when necessary. Nodes were added to the Network at Station locations to facilitate routing . Psuedo Nodes where arcs cross without a station are flagged Status = 9.]
- Process Step
- Description
- Changed name of files from Urban_Rail_Links.shp and Urban_Rail_Stops.shp to UnitedStates_UrbanRailsLinks_2004.shp and UnitedStates_UrbanRailsStops_2004.shp. A new file geodatabase was created named UnitedStates_UrbanRails_2004.gdb and the shapefiles were imported into a feature dataset named UnitedStates_UrbanRails_2004.
