- This polygon data layer represents Minor Civil Divisions (also known as Municipalities such as towns, villages, and cities) for Dane County, Wisconsin in 1996. The dataset was originally published by the Dane County and Information Office in 1996 as Coverage format. AGSL Staff converted to shapefile and simplified the data for ease of use.

- This layer is intended for reference and mapping purposes and may be used for basic applications such as viewing, querying, and map output production or to provide a basemap to support graphical overlays and analysis with other spatial data.
